Guest Column: Why I Attend a Christian University

When I began looking for a college to attend, I always had Christian universities in mind. I just liked the idea of a Christ-centered school. It seemed neat to be able to get a degree while in a spiritual environment. I thought going to a Bible college would be like living at church camp while receiving my education. I researched and visited many colleges, both secular and Christian. While becoming more knowledgeable about the different schools, the choice to go to a Christian university was reaffirmed. There was just something different about them and I liked that fact.

My decision was Kentucky Christian University, located in Grayson, Kentucky. The major reason I chose this college is because it has a small, friendly campus. My mom also attended KCU. I like KCU because it is different. The major distinction of an education at KCU is that it is uniquely and intentionally Christian. At KCU, the Bible is at the core of every curriculum. Each student takes 30 hours of Bible classes and receives a minor in Bible Studies. This prepares students to share their faith with others no matter where they go in life. And, KCU understands that Christians are needed in every area of life.

Outside Bible classes, the University has so much to offer. In addition to the Bible Department, KCU offers traditoinal courses of study, including education, music, nursing, social work, psychology, and business. I also enjoy being involved on campus. I am a resident assistant, and I play soccer for the Lady Knights. I am a part of the outreach program, where I serve as a camp team member.

The lessons that are learned about life and growing to be better Christians are also a very important aspect of Bible colleges. A special bond is formed that you could not find anywhere else. As you grow closer to God you also grow closer to one another.

Attending KCU has been one of the best choices I ever made. I believe that anyone who chooses KCU or another similiar college can receive an excellent education in a unique spiritual environment.
