Summer Solstice
"Then God said, 'Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years.'" Genesis 1:14Today is the summer solstice! Let's celebrate!
I love observing the change of the seasons and early Christians did, too, especially those of Celtic descent. Our foremothers lived in close harmony with the Earth and were in tune with its simple rythms. Find ways in which you can honor the sun and the height of summer today -- lay in the grass, eat dinner outside, decorate your house with sunflowers, eat spicy foods... and pray this traditional Welsh prayer that was crafted for the summer solstice.
Almighty God, who has blessed the earth that it should be fruitful and bring forth abundantly what is needed for the life of humankind: bless, we pray thee, the labor of all who cultivate and harvest the land, and bless with such seasonable weather that we may gather in the fruits of the earth and ever rejoice in thy goodness, to the praise of thy holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Well...it's not very summer solsticey here today. I cut the grass in the rain this morning (it was THAT tall and unkempt!).
Wishing everyone a fruitful summer!

At this time of the year I always honor the memory of a wise Priestess who helped me find my Spiritual Path. She has taken a different path now, but I hope she will always remember....
We are one
